Vietnam, a Southeast Asian country known for its natural beauty, cultural diversity, and historical heritage, has emerged as one of the most popular destinations for Indian tourists in 2023. According to the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism, the country witnessed 82,066 Indian visitors in the first 10 months of 2023, a 51% increase compared to the same period in 2022

What Makes Vietnam Attractive for Indian Travelers?

One of the main reasons why Vietnam appeals to Indian travelers is its affordability. Vietnam offers a range of accommodation, transportation, and dining options that suit different budgets and preferences. A typical Indian tourist can spend around $50 per day in Vietnam, including food, lodging, and sightseeing.

Another factor that draws Indian tourists to Vietnam is its diverse and rich culture. Vietnam has a long and turbulent history, marked by influences from China, France, and the US. The country boasts many UNESCO World Heritage sites, such as the ancient town of Hoi An, the imperial city of Hue, and the spectacular Halong Bay. Vietnam also has a vibrant and colorful cuisine, with dishes that echo the flavors of India, such as pho, banh mi, and spring rolls

Moreover, Vietnam offers a variety of activities and experiences for Indian travelers, ranging from adventure to relaxation. Vietnam has some of the best beaches in Asia, such as Nha Trang, Mui Ne, and Phu Quoc, where tourists can enjoy sunbathing, swimming, snorkeling, and surfing. Vietnam also has stunning natural landscapes, such as the terraced rice fields of Sapa, the sand dunes of Mui Ne, and the caves of Phong Nha. For those who seek thrill and excitement, Vietnam has many options for trekking, biking, kayaking, and zip-lining

How to Plan a Trip to Vietnam from India?

Planning a trip to Vietnam from India is relatively easy and hassle-free, thanks to the improved connectivity and visa policies between the two countries. Indian tourists can fly directly to Vietnam from major Indian cities, such as Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, and Kolkata, with airlines such as VietJet Air, IndiGo, and Air India. The flight duration is around 5 to 7 hours, depending on the destination and the stopover

Indian tourists can also apply for an e-visa to Vietnam online, without having to visit the embassy or consulate. The e-visa is valid for 30 days and allows a single entry to Vietnam. The e-visa fee is $25 and the processing time is 3 working days. Indian tourists can also opt for a visa on arrival, which requires a pre-approval letter from a travel agency and a stamping fee of $25 at the airport

What are the Best Places to Visit in Vietnam for Indian Tourists?

Vietnam has something for everyone, whether they are looking for culture, nature, or adventure. Here are some of the best places to visit in Vietnam for Indian tourists, according to a recent article by Business Insider India:

  • Hanoi: The capital city of Vietnam, Hanoi is a vibrant mix of history and modernity. Indian tourists can explore the Old Quarter, where they can find narrow streets, colonial buildings, and bustling markets. They can also visit the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum, the Temple of Literature, and the Hoan Kiem Lake.
  • Hue: The former imperial capital of Vietnam, Hue is a historical and cultural treasure. Indian tourists can visit the Citadel, where they can see the palaces, temples, and gates of the Nguyen dynasty. They can also visit the royal tombs, the Thien Mu Pagoda, and the Perfume River.
