The much-awaited announcement of Vijay’s next film, tentatively titled Thalapathy 68, has finally been made. The film will be directed by Venkat Prabhu, who is known for his blockbuster films like Mankatha, Chennai 28 and Maanaadu. The director took to his social media to share a picture of him with Vijay, writing “Dreams do come true”. Venkat Prabhu has been a fan of Vijay since his childhood and has expressed his desire to work with him several times. The director also joins the elite list of filmmakers who have directed both Vijay and his rival Ajith Kumar.
AGS Entertainment’s 25th Film and Second with Vijay
Thalapathy 68 will be produced by AGS Entertainment, which is celebrating its 25th film in the industry. The production house has previously collaborated with Vijay for the 2019 sports drama Bigil, which was a huge success at the box office. AGS Entertainment has also produced films like Thiruttu Payale, Madrasapattinam, Velayudham and Kaappaan. In a statement, the producers said that Thalapathy 68 will be their biggest film so far and will have all the elements of a mass entertainer that will appeal to all sections of the audience.
Yuvan Shankar Raja to Compose Music
One of the most exciting aspects of Thalapathy 68 is the reunion of Vijay and Yuvan Shankar Raja after 18 years. The duo had worked together in Pudhiya Geethai, which was released in 2003. Since then, fans have been eagerly waiting for them to join hands again. Yuvan Shankar Raja is one of the most popular and versatile music composers in the industry, who has delivered many chartbusters for films like Dheena, 7G Rainbow Colony, Billa, Paiyaa and Maari. Yuvan had hinted about his collaboration with Vijay in an award function last year, saying that it would happen soon.
The Rest of the Cast and Crew
The details of the rest of the cast and crew of Thalapathy 68 are yet to be revealed. However, some reports suggest that the film will have a huge ensemble cast that includes Prashanth, Prabhu Deva, Sneha, Laila, Meenakshi Chaudhary, Mohan, Jayaram, Ajmal Ameer, Yogi Babu, VTV Ganesh, Vaibhav, Premgi Amaren, Aravind Akash and Ajay Raj. The film will also have Siddhartha Nuni as the cinematographer and Venkat Raajen as the editor. The film is expected to go on floors in October this year and release in 2024.
