Winter is here, and so are the challenges for your skin. The cold and dry air can make your skin dull, dehydrated, and prone to wrinkles. But don’t worry, you can still maintain your youthful glow with some simple skincare tips from an expert.
Dr. Chytra, a dermatologist and founder of Amala Earth, a brand that offers eco-friendly vegan products, shared some anti-ageing secrets for winter skincare in an Instagram Reel. Here are some of the highlights from her video:
Hydrate your skin from inside and outside
Dr. Chytra said that the best anti-ageing skincare tip for winter is to quench your skin’s thirst with hydration. She advised drinking plenty of water and eating hydrating foods like cucumber and watermelon. She also suggested using a humidifier to combat the dryness caused by the heater.
She added that one should apply a hydrating serum with sodium hyaluronate, a form of hyaluronic acid that can penetrate deeper into the skin and provide long-lasting moisture. She also recommended taking hydration pills with ceramides and hyaluronic acid, but only after consulting a dermatologist.
Use a gentle and moisturising cleanser
Dr. Chytra said that winter calls for a shift in the cleansing routine. She said that one should opt for mild, hydrating cleansers that can cleanse the skin without stripping it of its natural oils. She said that ayurvedic cleansers made from organic herbs and essential oils can preserve the skin’s moisture barrier and balance its pH level.
Opt for a medifacial at a skin doctor’s office
Dr. Chytra said that nourishing the skin is not just about following a skincare routine at home. She said that one should also opt for a medifacial at a skin doctor’s office for an added boost. A medifacial is a customized facial treatment that uses medical-grade products and techniques to address specific skin concerns and enhance its health and appearance.
Apply sunscreen and retinol
Dr. Chytra said that sunscreen and retinol are two must-have products for anti-ageing skincare, even in winter. She said that sunscreen protects the skin from sun damage and prevents premature ageing. She advised applying a broad-spectrum sunscreen with at least SPF 30 every day, even on cloudy days.
She also said that retinol, a derivative of vitamin A, is an important ingredient for anti-ageing. She said that retinol stimulates collagen production, reduces fine lines and wrinkles, improves skin texture and tone, and fights acne. She advised applying retinol at night, after moisturising the skin.
Use natural ingredients like cocoa butter and aloe vera
Dr. Chytra said that natural ingredients like cocoa butter and aloe vera can also help in keeping the skin young and glowing in winter. She said that cocoa butter is rich in essential vitamins and antioxidants that nourish and protect the skin. She said that one should apply cocoa butter generously to the dry areas, such as elbows and knees, to provide hydration that lingers.
She also said that aloe vera gel is a versatile winter skincare remedy that has hydrating, anti-inflammatory, and healing properties. She said that aloe vera gel can soothe dry patches, calm irritated skin, and promote a healthy complexion.
By following these tips, you can keep your skin young and glowing this winter. Remember, ageing is inevitable, but you can slow it down with proper care and nourishment.
