Take-Two Calls PC Vital While GTA 6 Still Skips It
Strauss Zelnick told shareholders PC can now be half of a hit’s sales, yet Grand Theft Auto 6 still has no PC date for November 19.
Take-Two Interactive chairman Strauss Zelnick told shareholders on September 17 that the PC is becoming more important to the company, even as Grand Theft Auto 6 still has no PC date.
He was answering a question about PlayStation 5 Pro supply and the timing of PC launches. Grand Theft Auto VI still opens on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and Series S on November 19, 2026.
Zelnick Answered a PS5 Pro Question With PC
The remarks came at Take-Two’s virtual 2026 annual meeting of stockholders, an audio-only session at 9:00 a.m. Eastern. Nicole Shevins, senior vice president of investor relations, opened the webcast. After the board votes, Zelnick took general questions.
The first one was about GTA Online. He restated the November 19 date, said Grand Theft Auto VI is a single-player title launching on Xbox and PS5, and said GTA V Online “continues to be a robust business for us, and we will continue to support GTA V Online.”
The second question asked whether a shortage of PS5 Pros was changing the delivery of PC games. Zelnick treated it as a question about the cadence of PC launches, not about one Sony SKU.
I assume this is a question regarding the cadence of PC launches. The strategy of the company is over time, generally speaking, to launch for any platforms for which there’s a meaningful audience. But that isn’t always the case, and certainly if platforms were no longer viable, we would change that strategy, and I would note that the PC platform is becoming more and more important to our company over time.
Strauss Zelnick, Chairman and CEO, Take-Two Interactive, 2026 annual meeting
That is not a PC date. It is also not a denial. He left Grand Theft Auto 6 on the two consoles already on the box and described PC as a platform the company will not ignore if the audience is large enough.
A third question asked how Take-Two would market a global launch. Zelnick said the game will ship in 13 localized languages at first, which he called typical, and said some launches add more languages later.
PC Can Be 40% or 50% of a Big Title
The September 17 line was a shorter version of something Zelnick already told analysts on August 7, on Take-Two’s fiscal first-quarter 2027 call. He was talking about open systems, not about a GTA 6 Steam page.
“Twenty years ago, when we showed up here at Take-Two for a console release that was available on PC at launch, PC would represent 1% to 2% of the overall sales,” he said. “Today, that can be 40% or 50% in a similar situation.” He added that people already have PCs and extra controllers, and that those machines work as game devices.
Those figures apply to a title that actually ships on PC at the same time as consoles. They are not a split of Grand Theft Auto VI’s opening weekend, because that SKU does not exist yet. They do show why a late PC edition is no longer a leftover. It is a second slice of the same pie, large enough to carry a year of results on its own.
TAKE-TWO’S PC AND GTA MATH
- PC at launch: Zelnick said a big title that ships on PC from day one can see 40% or 50% of sales on that platform, up from 1% to 2% twenty years ago.
- GTA V still selling: Grand Theft Auto V has sold in over 230 million units worldwide, per the August 7 call.
- The series: Rockstar puts the Grand Theft Auto catalog at over 470 million units sold-in.
- The GTA 6 year: Take-Two is guiding for $8.0 to $8.2 billion in net bookings in fiscal 2027, about 20% growth at the midpoint over fiscal 2026’s $6.72 billion.
Net bookings is Take-Two’s own measure of products and services sold, including digital and physical sell-in. Fiscal 2027 runs through March 31, 2027, so the console launch sits inside that year. Rockstar is expected to supply about 37% of the mix, with Zynga at 34% and 2K at 29%. Zelnick also said the company’s sales are well over 90% digital.
A November 19 Launch With No PC Version
Rockstar has set a November 19, 2026 console launch for Grand Theft Auto VI, at $79.99 for the standard game and $99.99 for the Ultimate Edition. Pre-orders opened at midnight local time on June 25. Digital pre-loading begins on November 12. The physical box, also due November 12, holds a download code rather than a disc.
Storefronts named in the release are the PlayStation Store, the Microsoft Store, the Rockstar Games Store, and global retailers. PC is not on that list. The game is still unrated. Rockstar describes a single-player story set around Vice City in the state of Leonida, built around Jason and Lucia’s story in Leonida.
THE CONSOLE CLOCK INSIDE GTA 6
- June 25, 2026: Pre-orders open at midnight local time.
- November 12, 2026: Digital pre-load starts, and code-in-box physical copies go on sale to support that pre-load.
- November 19, 2026: Grand Theft Auto VI launches on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and Series S.
- November 20, 2026: The cutoff after which new purchases no longer include the Vintage Vice City Pack.
Sony Interactive Entertainment used the pre-order window to say the game will “play best on PS5” because of a close partnership with Rockstar. That is a marketing claim about features on one console. It is not a dated PC plan.
On the August 7 call, Zelnick said pre-orders had had “an exceptional start” and that Take-Two had “high degree of confidence” in the November 19 date. First-quarter net bookings were $1.39 billion, a touch above guidance, led by NBA 2K and the Grand Theft Auto series. The outlook already assumes a console GTA 6, not a three-platform launch.
Watch the Clock on Rockstar’s Last Two Ports
Rockstar’s last two major single-player games went to consoles first and to PC later. The gaps were not the same length, and neither game was announced for PC on its original night.
HOW LONG PC WAITED LAST TIME
| Game | Console launch | PC launch | Gap |
|---|---|---|---|
| Grand Theft Auto V | September 17, 2013 | April 14, 2015 | Just over 18 months |
| Red Dead Redemption 2 | October 26, 2018 | November 5, 2019 | Just over a year |
| Grand Theft Auto VI | November 19, 2026 | Not announced | No date |
GTA 5’s PC edition was delayed more than once before it stuck on April 14, 2015. Take-Two later said the PC launch had exceeded expectations. In the first month, Steam alone accounted for 2.3 million copies, a figure from the company’s fiscal report that quarter, on top of sales through Rockstar’s own store and other shops.
When Red Dead Redemption 2 arrived on PC on November 5, 2019, the wait was shorter. Rockstar sold it first through its own launcher, then other shops, with Steam following in December. The pattern is console first, PC as a separate product with its own store mix and its own week of headlines.
2K, Take-Two’s other big label, does not always follow that script. Civilization VII shipped on PC at launch. Rockstar has treated GTA as a console event first. Zelnick has said that on a release like this, the company is judged by serving the core audience, and that if that audience is not served first and best, the rest of the market is harder to reach.
Sony’s Co-Marketing Deal Is Not Why PC Waits
Rockstar and Sony have a co-marketing arrangement around Grand Theft Auto 6. Zelnick has already been asked whether that deal is why PC is missing from November 19. He said no. He pointed instead to Rockstar’s habit of going to consoles first.
That answer matters because it closes the simple conspiracy and leaves the harder one. If Sony is not the lock, the delay is a Rockstar and Take-Two choice. The “core” in that older remark is still the living-room console buyer, even after Zelnick’s own math put PC at 40% or 50% of a simultaneous launch.
Those two statements can sit together only if console-first is treated as brand management, and PC is treated as a later harvest. The September 17 comment about platforms that are “no longer viable” is the escape hatch. He did not say consoles had reached that point. He said the opposite: Take-Two will keep shipping where the audience is meaningful, and PC’s share of that audience has grown.
A PS5 Pro supply scare, if it is even real, does not force a Steam page into existence. It only makes the missing PC SKU louder, which is why a shareholder asked the question in that form.
Double Sales From One Delayed Port
Zelnick has said a later PC edition can create a second selling cycle, including people who buy the game twice. His line on that was “We’ll see how it works out.” The calendar already shows how the books would work if the last two ports are the guide.
November 19, 2026, falls inside fiscal 2027. A PC follow-up on the GTA 5 timetable would land in 2028. A follow-up on the Red Dead timetable would land in late 2027, after March 31, 2027. Either way, the first GTA 6 cash lands in the year Take-Two has already marked at $8.0 to $8.2 billion. The PC wave would be a later year’s problem, and a later year’s gift.
WHAT THE DELAY STILL BUYS
- Console attach: A $79.99 living-room launch, with Sony selling the idea that the game plays best on PS5.
- A clean single-player event: No day-one online mode, and GTA V Online kept alive as its own business.
- A second product window: PC, mods, and higher settings as a later SKU, not as launch-day support load.
- Repeat buyers: Players who take it on a console in November and buy it again when a PC build exists.
GTA 5 already proved the last point in miniature. The April 2015 PC launch sold millions after the game had been on consoles for just over 18 months, and the same title is still being counted in Take-Two’s 2026 totals at over 230 million units. The sequel does not need PC in November to print a record year. It needs PC later if Take-Two wants that 40% or 50% slice as extra, rather than as a split of the first weekend.
What a Year-Long PC Gap Now Costs
The cost sits on the other side of the same math. In 2013, holding PC for just over 18 months meant parking a 1% or 2% channel. In 2026, holding PC means parking a channel Zelnick now puts at 40% or 50% of a simultaneous launch. The wait is the same tactic. The amount of money on the other side of it is not.
That is why “PC is becoming more and more important” is a strange sentence to deliver 63 days before a console-only GTA 6. It is a true description of Take-Two’s catalog and a poor description of this SKU list. The people who already own a gaming PC hear the first half and look at November 19 anyway.
Some of them will buy a console. Some will wait. Some are already talking about running a PlayStation 5 build on a PC through emulation before Rockstar sells them a native version, which is the unofficial market a long gap always feeds. Take-Two does not have to like that. The gap still creates it.
None of this requires a secret date. Rockstar has not announced Grand Theft Auto 6 for PC. Zelnick has not dated a port. He has said the company ships to platforms with a meaningful audience, that PC’s share of that audience has grown, and that Rockstar still starts GTA on consoles. November 19 remains a two-console launch. The PC edition, if it follows the last two games, is a different product in a different year.
