Who actually reads us
Two audiences overlap on this site. The first is inside Kerala: readers who work in English, students, and people who moved to Kochi or Thiruvananthapuram for a job with no Malayalam. The second is the diaspora, concentrated in the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Oman, Qatar, Kuwait and Bahrain. They read at a different hour, often on data-limited connections, and they come for visa and labour rules, fares, weather at home, and what happened in their district today.
Our traffic is seasonal in a way worth planning around. Monsoon weeks, an election count, exam results, Onam and the Gulf holiday travel season are the peaks. State politics, district reporting, weather and disaster coverage, local government, diaspora service journalism, culture, film and sport are the verticals we publish, and the only ones we can sell against honestly. We do not print audience figures here. Ask, and we will send what our analytics provider reports for the last full month with the definitions attached, because a number without one is decoration.
What we sell
Display placements in and around articles, on the homepage and on section fronts. Sponsorship of our newsletter when we are sending one. Clearly labelled sponsored posts. That is the whole list. We do not run full-screen interstitials, auto-playing audio, or the sort of pop-up a reader has to dismiss twice before a rainfall map appears.
During a red alert or another emergency we strip heavy ad formats off the live updates and keep those pages as light as we can. A reader in Wayanad refreshing on a weak signal is the reader we built the site for, and no campaign is worth making that page fail to load. Direct advertisers are told about this before they book.
Sponsored content and how we label it
Sponsored posts carry a label at the top, in the same position every time, in words a reader understands instead of a euphemism. They are visually distinct from our journalism, they name the company that paid, and they stay out of our news feeds. Nobody in the newsroom writes them, and none of them are dressed up as analysis, a news alert or a live update.
We will not run sponsored material styled to look like a government notice, a public health advisory or a weather warning. In this state those formats save lives during the monsoon and get abused constantly in forwarded screenshots. Borrowing the look of one to sell something is off the table at any price. Our editorial standards go further on the line between the two kinds of page.
What we refuse
A good share of the advertising money aimed at a Kerala and Gulf-Malayali audience comes from categories we will not take. Better you know before you write, so here is the list as it stands. Volume does not move it.
- Recruitment, visa and emigration services promising an outcome, or unable to show a licence to recruit
- Real-money gaming and betting apps, and lottery prediction services
- Unregulated deposit schemes, gold schemes, chit funds and instant-loan apps
- Clinics or products claiming guaranteed cures, miracle results or unverifiable success rates
- Surrogate advertising for products that cannot legally be advertised directly
- Political advertising that does not name the party, candidate or group paying for it
- Matrimonial advertising that states or implies a dowry expectation
- Creatives imitating our editorial design, our headline style, or the format of an official notice
When we refuse a campaign we say why in plain terms. If the problem was a fixable disclosure rather than the product itself, the refusal applies to that creative, not to you forever.
What your money does not buy
No preview of the story list. No veto. No advance warning that a story about you is coming. No quiet removal, no softening, no phone call that works. If you buy inventory here and we later report something you dislike, both things stay true: the campaign runs and the story stands. Cancelling over coverage is your right.
Editors are not told who is buying, and on programmatic inventory we mostly cannot know. Where we have sold directly and the buyer becomes the subject of a story, the story says the company advertises with us. That disclosure protects us more than it protects you. Every revenue stream we have is listed on our ownership and funding page.
Serving, privacy and how to book
Most display advertising here is filled by the programmatic exchanges, with a smaller volume sold directly. Direct creatives are reviewed by a person before they go live. We do not accept tags that redirect the page, load undisclosed trackers, or try to identify a reader across other sites beyond that reader’s consent. What gets set is described in our cookie policy and our privacy policy.
To book, write to support@keralanews247.com with ADVERTISING at the front of the subject. Tell us the dates, the budget range, the market you want (inside Kerala, the Gulf, or both), and the formats you hold creative for. Rates move with the season, so we quote for your dates instead of pointing at a fixed sheet, and we answer inside two working days unless an emergency has taken the desk. Campaigns get the ad server’s own numbers on impressions, viewability, clicks and placements, including the weeks that look bad. Other routes in are on our contact page.
